A day in Oxford

Today we had a day here in Oxford. We started the day with breakfast and then went to the gardens at Christ Church Oxford, where Wesley went to school. Then we went to the Oxford Museums of Science and Natural History. Lunch was at the Eagle and Child pub where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein (Lord of the Rings author) used to go after teaching. They were part of a group called "the Inklings".

After lunch we met with Ralph Waller, Wesley Scholar and President of Manchester College at Oxford. He gave us an inside tour of Oxford, highlighted by going to Wesley's study at Lincoln College and up to the bellower at University Church. We also went to the place where Thomas Cranmer and others were burned at the stake. Such a sad thing. We finished the afternoon with Dr. Waller reading a chapter of his soon to be published book on John Wesley and the use of money. It was fascinating. This evening we went to Evensong worship at Christ Church. It was a beautiful service.

Tomorrow we are off to London for the day. We are going to worship at Wesley Chapel, then going to the Methodist museum and Wesley's grave. You are all missed, but I am learning so much. Till tomorrow!

Christ's Peace,
Brett
