Bristol and Bath

What a great day! This morning we traveled from Oxford over to Bristol. I was surprised how big a city Bristol was. It was very special to visit here. The New Room is located in Bristol. This was the first Methodist Preaching house and community center. I was able to stand at the pulpit that John Wesley preached from on many occasions. We also saw his preaching robe, bedroom, and study. In addition we went to Charles Wesley's home. It was a simple house, but we were able to see the study where he penned many of the hymns we sing today. He was the writer and his wife was actually the musician. We took part in a communion service at 1:00 pm. It was powerful to receive communion in the place where the Wesley's preached and where Francis Asbury heard the call to bring Methodism to America.

After lunch (I had a Cornwall pasty...an English pastry filled with steak and potatoes) we traveled to Bath, a town known for it's Roman era baths from the time before Christ. Roman architects and engineers were brilliant. As someone who loves history, I enjoyed all of the sights. Had afternoon tea and warm pastries in bath; perfect for a cool rainy day.

This evening we ate again at the great dining hall here at Manchester college in Oxford. They are the epitome of hospitality. There is a steward who looks over our table and makes sure we have everything that we need. He is very friendly and interesting to say the least. We have really enjoyed Oxford. We have a day here tomorrow. Will report more then. Thanks for reading. I miss everyone!

Blessings,
Brett
